Wado-Ryu Karate Training Moscow 1996
André De Rijck, commercial attaché at the Belgian Embassy in Moscow, lived in Moscow for many years.
André had a perfect command of the Russian language and was thus naturally integrated into the daily life and population of Moscow.
He founded the Wado-ryu Karate Club of Moscow, with more than 50 members and trained many Russian black belts in Wado-Ryu.
André also translated Master Kamigaito’s Karate manuals, Kihon, volume 2 and Pin-An katas, volume 3 into Russian.
He was remarried to Nadezhda with whom he had a daughter.
He died prematurely on May 1, 2021.

In 1996, his club was growing rapidly and he invited his Belgian friends for a few days in Moscow in 1996. It was Jean-Maurice Huard, the successor of Kamigaito Yoshikazu Sensei, who led the lessons there.
This video shows a nice cultural exchange between Russian and Belgian Karatekas.
The « tourist » part has been kept in this video because it is also a simple testimony of the opening of Russia in 1996.
But what can we say today, on 9 December 2022, round thirty years later?
The light is going out in Ukraine, but it is dark in Moscow.
The heat is disappearing in Ukraine, but it is in Moscow that hearts are freezing.
Will the universal Christmas message of peace « Peace on earth to men of good will » be heard in this majestic Kremlin?
But let us be clear: such a « special operation » carried out on the territory of an independent country like Ukraine has no place in our world.
Let’s hope that Russia, its leaders and its people decide together to stop this « special operation » soon.

Wado-Ryu Shiai and Katas competition at Leuven in the years 75 with Kamigaito Yoshikazu Sensei. One of the corner referee was Mister Raymond DAGRAIN responsible of the section Karaté at the FTAM ( Fédération Travailliste des Arts Martiaux ). Wado-Ryu Shiai and Katas competition at Visé in the year 1989 with Kamigaito Yoshikazu Sensei. This was organized by the ASBL Wado Kamigaito Belgium VZW and named “ championship of the Hopes”. This kind of competition was organized each year between round 75-95.
The 1989 competition was very special because it was with an invited Japanese team coached by Hada Sensei and Yanagawa Sensei.

Wado-Ryu training under direction of Jocelyn Jacquemin
Jocelyn Jacquemin was a student at the Wadokan Wado-Ryu Club in Nalinnes Belgium under the direction of Claude Tassin.
Jocelyn Jacquemin participates frequently to lessons with Yoshikazu Kamigaito Sensei in Belgium in his club and also on specials saturday trainings in Korbeek-Lo.
Now he is living since several years in Japan and still practise Wado-Ryu Karate in japanese clubs.
He comes regulary back in Belgium and is Technical Director of the JKF Wadokai Shinbujuku – Belgium

Rappel sur les Yakusoku Kumite
Les Yaku Soku Kumites sont un pas vers la réalité ; ils mettent en application les connaissances et habitudes acquises par la pratique du Kihon et des Katas. Les mouvements fins y acquièrent plus d’importance ou, autrement dit, les Yaku Soku Kumites privilégient les mouvements des membres (en attaque et en défense) par rapport à la dynamique du corps.
Le présent volume expose systématiquement des Yaku Soku Kumites fondamentaux, ce qui ne veut pas dire … qu’ils sont faciles ; nous avons retenu des Yaku Soku Kumites susceptibles de larges applications. Les débutants s’en tiendront à une étude exclusive des Ippon Kumites ou des Tanshiki Kumites*. On peut fabriquer sans fin des Yaku Soku Kumites plus ou moins efficaces, mais comme ces exercices aident leurs pratiquants à se forger une conception du karaté, il importe de ne retenir que les mouvements qui éclairent l’idée maîtresse de l’école choisie ; il faut éviter d’adapter à la légère les Yaku Soku Kumites d’une autre école ou de créer de toutes pièces des Yaku Soku Kumites en se laissant guider par une vague intuition. Les initiatives malheureuses foisonnent en ce domaine ; elles ont causé beaucoup de ravages.

Wado-Ryu Karate Training LEUVEN 09-06-2018
These training sessions attempt to perpetuate the teaching of Wado-Ryu karate as introduced to us by Yoshikazu Kamigaito Sensei between 1970 and 1990.
For the training on 09-06-2018, we asked five former students of Yoshikazu Kamigaito Sensei to show us the points they felt were important in their practice of Wado-Ryu karate.
This is, of course, only a snapshot in time, and the videos below will be a good reminder for those taking part.
